About the event
From the evil eye to impotency spells, magical history is full of dastardly curses and countercurses.
In this lively online workshop, Rebecca Beattie examines the five most popular curses in history and provides guidance on how to defend against them. After introducing each curse, Rebecca dives into the counter-magic, exploring various types of apotropaic (protective) remedies as laid out in the Grimoire tradition, and how they have evolved for modern use. A practical section follows, when students are taught a few simple protection spells to be carried out at home when needed. The spells include: a traditional salt and water blessing, the making of a witch bottle, and casting a protective circle.
Led by a witchcraft practitioner with a strong background in folk craft, this is an excellent practical introduction to one of the most ubiquitous forms of magic.
